How to prepare for a portrait session

Start with the purpose

A portrait for a company profile calls for a different mood than one for an artist portfolio. Tell your photographer where the image will appear, how it will be cropped, and what you want it to communicate.

Bring options you feel comfortable in

Choose two or three outfits that fit well and feel like you. Solid colors and simple textures often keep attention on your expression. Try everything on before the shoot and bring a lint roller if needed.

Leave room to settle in

Give yourself time to arrive, change, and get used to the camera. A short conversation at the start can help shape the session and make the photographs feel more natural.
